A bountiful harvest

ree

When I think of harvest season, I typically think of celebrations that come along with reaping rewards that come after months (and sometimes years) of “blood, sweat and tears.” Sounds a lot like economic development, doesn’t it?

Just like a successful crop, successful communities begin with the planting of small seeds— appropriate planning, strong partnerships and shared visions. These seeds grow only when nurtured with commitment and, of course, patience. Along the way, challenges are faced just as farmers face storms and droughts. It is resilience that guarantees the reward.

A community development harvest can come in the form of improved education, healthcare, infrastructure, quality jobs, stronger relationships, new opportunities and a better quality of life for everyone. A harvest is not just enjoyed by one group of people. It is shared and it can strengthen the whole community.

As we look ahead, it’s important to remember that each season of growth prepares us for the next. By working together, investing in each other and caring for the “crops” of our shared efforts, we can look forward to a bountiful harvest every season of the year!

Many times I have been told I can relate or parallel just about anything into a story – but it’s clear that community development follows the same patterns associated with farming (and the Good Lord knows that’s something our community knows very well!) and ultimately enjoying true progress that will make the entire region stronger.

As I heard during last week’s Rotary meeting from the special speaker – “It’s simple: In all circumstances, always be thankful and full of gratitude.” A much-needed reminder for the purpose we all serve in our wonderful part of the world.
